The train was at the heart of the D-Day landing strategy and the liberation of Europe. As part of the preparation for the Normandy landings, Allied strategists were concerned about the need to slow down any German reinforcements that might reach the Atlantic beaches. The Transportation Plan proposed to paralyse the entire French rail system, thanks to a powerful fleet of strategic bombers operating three months before June 1, 1944, the date scheduled for D-Day. Without these massive attacks on trains, stations, rails - there would have been no Operation Overlord!
