Dayan is seeing his own analyst, and immediately brings up Adel’s father’s visit to his practice, and his own guilt. He’s now idealising his patient, who has become a hero to him. Then he suffers a panic attack. Once calmed down, Dayan attacks Esther, causing her to lose her temper.

Liza, Dayan’s daughter, is waiting for her father in his office. She’s angry with him, aware of the tension between her parents. Their conversation is interrupted by Mohammed Chibane, Adel’s father, who has turned up wanting to understand what led his son to try psychoanalysis. The conversation takes an accusatory tone.

There’s been a shocking death, and Dayan goes to the funeral. He sees Ariane there and confides his feelings of guilt to her. He meets the family of the deceased, including his father, who, in his distress, assumes that Ariane and Dayan are a couple.

Damien turns up alone and relaxed, ready to make every effort to save his marriage. Léonora, who was on the phone, joins in the discussion and confesses her adultery. Damien’s reaction is surprising. Léonora manages to talk about her father’s death, for which she feels responsible.

Adel, back again at last, finally finds the courage to talk about the traumatic event he suffered as a child in Algeria. Now making considerable progress in his therapy, he’s preparing to make a decision which seems obviously self-destructive to Dayan, who tries to alert him to the fact.

Ariane is back. She’s followed Dayan’s advice and spoken to her father about the behaviour of Serge, the family friend, when she was a teenager. All of a sudden, Dayan comes clean about his feelings, but Ariane is convinced it’s just a psychoanalyst’s strategy.
