Wisting and his team are alerted to a horrific crime scene in Larvik. The severed head of a young asylum seeker is displayed on a spike in the middle of the town square. FBI agent Maggie Griffin returns to investigate the case and aid Wisting. It is now of international interest.

When a body turns up in the net of a local fisherman, the two murders are linked. Will this lead the detectives to Layla’s remains? After a conversation with her brother, Line suspects that Wisting has been intimate with the head of the care center.

Maggie is forced to reveal information that she has previously kept secret from Wisting. The investigation takes a new turn, leading the detectives across the border into Sweden.

In Sweden, Maggie and Wisting finds a previous victim hiding under a false name. Together with the Swedish police they are dragged into a major police operation, but the case ends up back where it started, in Larvik. The final showdown becomes both intense and surprising. A new disappearance makes Wisting and Stiller fear that the killers are about to escape the country; police arrest a suspect in light of a new clue.

Line's discovery forces police to re-think their profile of The Other; the killer cleans up loose threads and time is running out; Wisting discovers the secret his daughter has concealed from him.
